Heal The World Nigeria is Heal The World Global's first West African Hub and serves the purpose of testing our programs based on what Nigerians truly need to improve their lives. Having "feet on the ground" is crucial to us because we only act after gathering scientific data based on real stories of real people.
About NIGERIA
Our informal research on Nigeria's statistics revealed surprising numbers. An enormous scale and a famously young population sit alongside an infrastructure and income levels that lag well behind that scale.
Here's a snapshot across population, income, human development, health and access to basic services:
A few important points to remember:
Almost half the population is under 18 years old.
Almost half live in acute poverty.
Almost half the youth is unemployed.
Almost half have no internet access.
Almost a third of adults are illiterate.
Almost a third don't have electricity.
Almost 1 in 100 women die at birth
Almost 1 in 10 children die at birth
Almost 1 in 10 children die until they reach 5yo.
Almost 1 in 50 children is malnourished.
Almost 9 in 10 women are refused employment.
Almost 1 in 3 women have been violently assaulted.
We can never solve all of nigeria's problems,
but we can alLeviate the suffering of those who reach out

Heal The World Nigeria wants to create an infrastructure for sustainable development, where people can not just survive but thrive, all while maintaining their own rich and unique culture.

As you can see, Nigeria is one of the world's countries with the most urgent need for alleviating hunger. This is one of the reasons why we will start with will start with ELIMINATING HUNGER as our first project.
How are you going to alleviate hunger?
Many before you have trieD and failed!
That is a very good question! One that we think about every hour of every day. It is our job to figure out how!
All we can do is set a goal, plan, test, build and improve!
Instead of doing what others have done before us, we will try new things, learn from our predecessors, but also build an infrastructure that is resilient, sustainable and self-suficient!
Building a team which contains not just experts from various fields, but also a team of locals who understand their community, is crucial in solving the food crisis.
And YOU, dear reader, will see it all happen in a uniquely transparent way! And YOU will be 100% part of it!

This 24 min long documentary shows the situation in Northern Nigeria, where 80% of the children are malnourished.

Mrs. Wafaa Saeed Abdelatef is the UNICEF representative and she talks about how exclusive breastfeeding, basic immunisation and small food packets can make a massive difference in children under 5.
She also talks about how mothers are very involved and willing to do anything they can for their children. Not only mothers, but also men in the community are ready to help where fathers lack accountability.
This video is very useful in understanding how malnutrition affects children.
Stunted children are malnourished children who, until the age of 2 haven't received enough nutrition which made their physical and mental development slow down and given them a 10fold risk of dying.
Good news is, until the age of 2, severe malnutrition is reversible!
This video shows that the biggest food problem is not lack of land, climate change, poor soil, or lack of manpower. It's religious violence from the local military!!
Farmers are forced to run and leave their crops to rot because of the local men whose negative religious education has pushed them to do violent things.
What can heal The World Nigeria do?
Our international team at Heal The World Global and our local team at Heal The World Nigeria will work together to plan, test, build and continually improve the development of infrastructures that help Nigerians build their own villages, cities and communities, while preserving their own culture and values.
Our first program, the Children Food Program (CFP) will try to create a food infrastructure so we can solve the most basic of human needs: nutrition.
For that, we need more than funding, we need people's time, energy, people's passion and compassion. We are building Impactivate to help create a bridge between those who have the privilege to help and those who were unfortunately born in an underserved community.
Our most important value is providing dignified support to the local community. Because we understand that "Give the man a fish, you feed him once, teach the man how to swim, you feed him forever". We also believe in "teach the Mom to raise her kids and she will raise the whole community".

Step 1 - Educate yourself. Watch the videos. Learn, understand, feel the problem deeply. Allow yourself to cry and be vulnerable. Sit in the problem. Think about it. And forgive yourself for feeling powerless or overwhelmed.
